Our Story:

Our beloved dogs, Duke and Grace, two big beautiful bloodhounds, were our greatest inspiration. Duke, our rescue, had come home to Door County, Wisconsin with missing fur, skin irritations and a lack of energy. After a few months of probiotics, numerous types of kibble, and vet visits, it was decided he needed a lifestyle change, and so the research began.   

We strive to be as holistic as possible in our household, so the decision was made for a complete switch to an exclusively raw diet, and what a world of difference it had made in Duke! He found his puppy spirit again, his fur had begun growing back more sleek and shiny than ever! Grace also had faced challenges of her own with a kibble diet. She had almost zero interest in food, very lethargic and constant ear infections. The switch to raw has changed her outlook on feeding time, and improved her overall wellbeing. And then, the revelation had occurred. “Why are we not sharing this knowledge with everyone?!”

In January 2024, Houndstead Creations was born. Kori decided to take the plunge and begin hand crafting treats.  Not only did she want to create a product and a brand that was all natural, with zero preservatives, and minimally processed - but she wanted to create a brand that promoted other local businesses. All of our products are sourced locally from various other small business in beautiful Door County, WI.

Our Founder and Creator, Kori, has had a passion for dogs from a very young age. Just like any other dog mom, she strives to give her dogs the best, longest, and happiest life that she can give them. This is how they became the (un)official taste testers! If they don’t approve, it doesn’t make it to our menu! While Kori does hold a full time job -- Cooking, and being a business woman has always been the real passion.

The Process:

We freeze dry each product in small batches, which allows us to have the best quality product. Everything is hand inspected prior to packaging. We Specialize in Freeze Drying, which uses a process called sublimation. The Freeze Dryer flash freezes, sealing in all of the flavor, and nutrients, and then once it is frozen solid, there is a pump that engages, creating a vacuum inside of the chamber. Once the vacuum is achieved, the trays will heat up, causing the liquid in the product, to leave it in a gas from (steam). The steam then sticks to the walls of the drum, creating an ice ring, which will stay there thru the remainder of the process, leaving the remaining product dried. The freeze drying process removes only the liquid, and allows the nutrients to stay intact. The end result is a lightweight, shelf-stable, and nutrient-dense treat that can be rehydrated with water, or served as a crunchy snack. Freeze-dried treats are popular among pet owners who want to provide their pets with healthy, natural, and minimally processed treats.
